B.net. PUGs and Auction House

As with other Blizzard games, Diablo III will feature region-locked Battle.net server and account access. Just like StarCraft II though, the South East Asian (SEA) version will continue to provide access to both the North American and SEA Battle.net servers. The main functionalities of Battle.net in Diablo III will be social and co-operative gameplay. Based on Real ID, you’ll be able to maintain a persistent friends list of both in-game and cross-game friends. Cross-game chat will also be enabled, so you’ll be able to chat with friends playing StarCraft II or World of Warcraft through Battle.net.

View all your friends' progress, chat, and invite them to your party (or join theirs).

You'll also be able to see and chat with friends on other Blizzard games.

Drop-in, drop-out co-op
Diablo III will support co-op gameplay with parties of up to four players. You will be able to start and invite friends to a co-op campaign, or view and join your friends’ ongoing adventures. What Blizzard did reveal is that co-op mode is designed for drop-in, drop-out gameplay. You are supposed to be able to jump into a co-op game from a solo game or leave co-op to continue on solo at any point in your campaign progression. The game continues to track your progress, and will dynamically adjust the map and difficulty based on party size.

If you’re feeling particularly antisocial one day, and would rather play with total strangers than your friends, the Public Game Finder will try to match you with random games. The matchmaking criteria aren’t finalized, but it will be based on your character’s current progression and questing area in the campaign.

Blizzard also seems to want to clamp down on any kind of griefing in Diablo III, focusing purely on co-op adventuring, sunshine, laughter, and fun times. When partying together, everyone only sees their own loot drops, and will be unable to set their PvP flag at will, so no unannounced ganking.

To facilitate this seamless co-op game style, there’s also a Quick Join feature on the main menu that displays your friends’ ongoing games that you can choose to join with one mouse click. If you broadcast your own game, your friends will then be able to view it on their Quick Join list. The design screams of console-style gameplay considerations, but Blizzard is still mum regarding any possible console port.

Assemble your party before venturing out, or quickly join any existing game via the Quick Join game list on the bottom right.

Diablo 3 Auction house preview.

Diablo 3's Auction House will feature two currencies, the first one will be in-game gold and the 2nd one will be real life money. Yep, you read it right, Diablo 3 will let you buy items with either gold or real life money! It's also worth noting that you will also be able to sell loot for money, and transfer that money outside the game. I guess gold farming just got interesting.

Here You can see Auction house bidding in dollars.

And here You can see item won on AH with in game gold.

The Diablo 3 beta has officially begun, and Blizzard has sent out the first wave of beta keys to some lucky participants.  If you opted in to Blizzard’s beta testing program (which is required to qualify for a key) then you can go check your inbox for a key.

If digging through your inbox doesn’t sound like fun, an even safer way to check for your invite is to log into your battle.net account and see if the Diablo 3 Beta shows up under your list of games.

A word of caution.  Blizzard has not yet sent out any promotional beta codes so any site or email claiming to be giving away codes is a fake.  In general, any site that requires you to complete an action like a survey is just a scam,  and right now that extends to any site claiming to be giving away codes at all.  The only way you can get into the beta right now is for Blizzard to activate the game in your battle.net account.

If you didn’t get an invite, don’t jump off a virtual cliff just yet as the invites to the beta have only just begun.  Blizzard will soon be giving away promotional keys to sites like this one to use in contests, and there will be additional people added to the beta by Blizzard over time.  Beta invites have only just begun
